An “udderly” fun travel nursing assignment

travel nurse dressed like cowOne of our great travelers had a unique 4th of July experience during his assignment. Check it out.

What was the parade for?

The local community of Liberty, Missouri has an annual festival on the evening of the 4th of July prior to their fireworks show called “4th-fest”. They have a small parade that goes into the town square.

How did you end up being in it?

My daughter and her husband own the local Chick-Fil-A. They have these cow suits that they use for PR purposes. They asked if I would be the Fire Chief cow for their spicy chicken campaign since I retired as a Fire Chief from the U.S. Air Force Reserves after 33 yrs. And I said “of course… Wouldn’t want to be any other cow!”

How hot was it?

102 ambient temp in the suit with 82% humidity. I was wearing a camelback hydrating system under the suit filled with ice and sweet tea from chick-Fil-a that I could drink from along the route. I started pre-hydrating with G-Force 2 hrs before I was to be in the suit…

Had you ever imagined you would end up dressed up like a cow during a travel nursing assignment?

Did you get paid?

No… It was all voluntary to serve the community and support the local Chick-Fil-A. The owners did however cater dinner for the ER staff that night at the Liberty Hospital since I went to work after the parade… (And going back to the hotel and shower of course before going in to work).

Was it fun?

Yes.. Extremely fun especially interacting with the kids

Would you do it again?

Absolutely! I’m looking forward to it if the opportunity presents itself

Describe the experience?

Hot and fulfilling… Especially being able to represent Medical Solutions in the local community as well as the ER.
