We hope you all had a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. The holiday got me thinking about all of the brave, talented nurses who serve our country, and the many who have done so throughout history. They’re sort of the original travel nurses — going wherever their help and services are most needed to serve their country. Nurses who serve, we salute you!
Check out these links to stories about nurses who served from around the web. (Quick note: Historically, of course, nurses were mainly women and so these histories reflect that. We’re glad that nowadays the profession is open to all!)
- The European Theater, the Pacific Theater … talk about traveling. Here is a very interesting history of the 59,000+ American nurses who served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II.
