Send Us an Inspiring Video to Help Future Nurses

travel nurse with camera

Lights, Camera, Action! Send Medical Solutions an inspiring video to help future nurses.

We’ve all had the feeling before in life … that we wish we’d known something before we had to learn it the hard way — an insight, a life hack, a shortcut, a kernel of wisdom, or even just someone to tell you it was all going to be OK!

Medical Solutions would like to invite you to be that awesome helper person and send us an inspiring video to help future nurses.

Just record a 30-second or less video where you share your expert advice and wisdom with today’s nursing students, then send the video to by Friday, October 3.

When Medical Solutions meets with students October 11-12, 2014, at the 12th Annual UC Davis Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Professions National Conference, we will share your life-changing advice and wisdom with the students in attendance.

Who better than you to inspire today’s nursing students and help give them a leg up … after all, you’ve made it through all the trials and tribulations of nursing school, passed your NCLEX, and made it to the other side as a successful, skilled nurse.

What do you wish you’d known back in nursing school that you know now? What advice do you wish someone had shared with you? What bit of knowledge would have helped you keep calm and conquer nursing school?

(If you need a little inspiration, Travel Nursing Blogs shared a really cool example of a nurse giving back to a nursing student in December of 2013, in which a mystery nurse put an inspirational letter and a Starbucks gift card in a NCLEX study guide at Barnes & Noble. Click here to check out that heartwarming story.)

We really appreciate you sharing your awesome, expert advice with the nurses of tomorrow. And remember, when you send us an inspiring video to help future nurses, you’re also helping strengthen the quality of healthcare in general. Thank you!

Congrats to July 2014’s Traveler of the Month and Rising Star!

gold medal

Congrats to July 2014’s Traveler of the Month, Danielle A., and Rising Star, Ryan N.!

We’d like to send a big shout-out and congratulations to our July Traveler of the Month, Danielle A., and also our Rising Star winner, Ryan N.

Traveler of the Month Danielle has been a nurse for five years and a Travel Nurse for four years. She specializes in PCU/Tele Float. She’s currently enjoying an assignment in the Kansas City area. Danielle travels with her adorable mini Boston terriers, Lola and KC.

She says she loves Travel Nursing because she gets to “see and learn new things every day,” which lets her appreciate her important place in the healthcare industry.

Travel Nurse Danielle

July Traveler of the Month Danielle kicks back while on assignment.

Her favorite destination so far?

“It’s a toss-up between Naples, Florida and Kansas City,” she says. “In Naples I got to be at the beach in the winter time, work people were great, and there are so many great places to see in the area. But Kansas City has been great over the past couple of years, the hospital is great, there are tons of activities, and I have meet some of my best friends in this city!”

Danielle’s adorable pups, Lola and KC!

Danielle’s advice for would-be Travel Nurses?

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help — all those stories of hospital staff disliking travelers aren’t true, 99% of the time they like the extra help. Also, be adventurous and enjoy your temporary new home,” she says.

Rising Star Ryan is a Cath Lab Nurse who’s been in nursing for five-plus years. He’s been traveling less than a year and has been in Denver and Wisconsin so far.

“I really enjoyed Denver,” says Ryan. “The city is fresh and offers a variety of outdoor and indoor activities and venues. The people are laid back, but very smart and active. It was easy to make friends with lasting relationships. When I am finished traveling Denver would be one of the places I would consider making my permanent home.”

Travel Nurse Ryan

July Rising Star Ryan takes in a Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field in Denver.

And besides discovering Denver, what else does Ryan love about Travel Nursing?

“I get to meet new people and see new places,” he says. “I also get to learn different approaches and procedures at the hospitals, which I can use in the future. The pay is a plus too! I consider it to be an extended vacation.”

Ryan has three great tips for future Travel Nurses:

1. Ask as many questions as you can and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
2. Trust your instincts. You know what you are doing or you wouldn’t be doing this.
3. Get to know the people you are working with. They will be your lifeline.

Thanks so much Danielle and Ryan for being awesome examples of Travel Nurses and for providing excellent patient care everywhere you go!

Hotel, Motel, Discounts are In!

Travel Nurse at Hotel

Contact your Career Consultant for information on Medical Solutions’ hotel discounts, whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure!

By Jill Budler, Medical Solutions Director of Housing

Traveling with Medical Solutions brings on BIG discounts. Hopefully you’re familiar with our Go Rewards program, but even beyond that, one of our Travelers’ favorite discounts to use are those that we offer on hotel stays.

Whether you are traveling with us for an assignment or a personal voyage, current Medical Solutions Travelers are always eligible to use our discounts for price breaks on hotel lodging across the nation. We have some deep discounts with many of the top hotel brands, so you should definitely ask your Career Consultant to hook you up before you book your next hotel stay.

Some of the awesome brands we offer discounts with at select locations include:

  • Best Western
  • Extended Stay America
  • LaQuinta
  • Embassy Suites
  • Wyndham Brands
  • IHG Brands
  • Choice Hotels

And that’s just a sampling! Be sure to inquire with your Career Consultant, who can answer any questions and share the appropriate discount code with you.

We also know that many of you travel with your pets in tow. On average, hotels charge $10 per night for your furry friends to stay, and some even charge a one-time nonrefundable pet fee of around $100. In this case, as always, we are all about saving you money. Here are a few tips for saving money when traveling with pets:

  • Set up a rewards account with InterContinental Hotels group and they will waive your pet fees. Pretty cool!
  • Look for pet friendly lodging. Some of our larger discounts are with Extended Stay America and Best Western, which are both very pet friendly.
  • You should always call ahead to make sure that a hotel can accommodate your furry friend. That way they are aware, and you won’t be blindsided by any additional cost involved.

So, remember: Let Medical Solutions hook you up before you book!

The next time you set sail on a business or personal trip, and you need to book a hotel stay, check with your Career Consultant who can help you save money on your stay.
