Licensure and Specialty Certification Reimbursement

Licensure Reimbursement

One of the perks of a travel healthcare career is the ability to explore and work in new places, but this often means you will need a new license to practice in each new state where you plan to work.

Medical Solutions is happy to help you with the state licensing process, and once you’ve been placed on assignment with us, we will even reimburse you for the cost of one license per assignment!

Specialty Certification Reimbursement

Your professional growth is important to us, so when you travel with Medical Solutions we will reimburse the cost for you to earn certification in your specialty or a new specialty. You must be a current Medical Solutions traveler upon successful completion of the certification program, at which point costs will be reimbursed to you.

Your career consultant will take the time to find out what’s most important to you — whether it’s hourly pay, stipends, bonuses, per diem, etc. They will then use this information to put a package together for you that outlines each item clearly.

401(k) with Company Contribution

Medical Solutions offers travelers a 401(k) plan through Wells Fargo Institutional Retirement and Trust, with auto-enrollment after your first 30 days of work and an employer contribution of 50% of your contribution up to 4%. That’s free money for you to plan for and achieve your retirement goals! Ask your career consultant for more information.

Loyalty Bonus

All Medical Solutions travelers earn a $600 loyalty bonus for every 600 hours worked. All you need to do is focus on what you do best — caring for patients — and we’ll take care of the rest. Each traveler is automatically enrolled in this program the second they start an assignment with us. We continuously keep tabs on your hours worked throughout the year and you can check the status of your loyalty bonus with your recruiter. While on call hours do not count toward the loyalty bonus, call back and all other hours do. Also, there is no limit to the number of times you can earn a loyalty bonus! Once you hit 600 hours and earn the $600 loyalty bonus, your hours count is reset and you start earning towards your next bonus. If you take a break from traveling with Medical Solutions, your hours we’ll keep your earned hours count and they’ll be here waiting for you when you return.

Referral Bonus

Share your love for Medical Solutions with your friends and co-workers! Simply have them call 1.866.633.3548 or apply online — just make sure they mention your name and ask for your career consultant. For every nurse you refer who is a new candidate to Medical Solutions, accepts a travel nursing travel allied healthcare professional position with us, and works at least 30 days, you get a $500 cash referral bonus! So, your friend gets a great job and you get a bonus — total win-win! Plus, there is no limit to the number of people you can refer or the number of referral bonuses you can receive.


Voluntary Benefits for Travel Nurses

Short-Term Disability Insurance

We hope you always enjoy good health and freedom from catastrophe, but this benefit offers you important financial protection in case you’re ever in an accident and suffer a disabling injury. If you’re hurt and become unable to work, you’ll directly receive cash benefits that will help you cover medical costs and/or be able to continue paying your bills. In the event you need them and qualify, these benefits will be paid to you on a monthly basis, letting you use the money however you need!

Long-Term Disability Insurance

This benefit can help protect you financially should you ever need to recover from an illness or disabling injury for a long period of time. After a waiting period, our long-term disability insurance through Cigna provides income protection to age 65 with a reduced benefit duration after age 65, monthly payments to you, and the option to spend the benefit as you see fit.

Critical Illness Insurance

Again, we wish you eternal good health. But, life happens, and that can sometimes include illness. This benefit helps protect you financially should you be diagnosed with a critical illness. If you are diagnosed with a covered critical illness, you’ll be paid cash benefits and can use that money to cover your out of pocket costs however you see fit. These benefits are also available for your spouse and/or child(ren).

Accident Insurance

Accidents happen, but just because your body takes a hit that doesn’t mean your wallet should! Our accident insurance through Voya helps financially protect you and your dependents when unexpected accidents occur by providing gap protection to cover out-of-pocket expenses due to unforeseen events, a lump-sum payment made directly to you, and the option to spend the benefit as you see fit, whether that’s on medical equipment, daily expenses, bills, or caregiving assistance.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

An unexpected hospital stay can really take a financial toll. Our hospital indemnity insurance through Voya helps reduce the financial impact on you and your dependents when unexpected health-related events occur by providing income and gap protection to cover out-of-pocket expenses and lost wages, a lump-sum payment made directly to you, and the option to spend the benefit as you see fit, whether that’s on medical equipment, daily expenses, bills, or caregiving assistance.

Voluntary Life Insurance

What would happen to your loved ones if you died tomorrow? With our voluntary life insurance through Cigna, you can rest easy knowing your loved ones will be financially protected in the event of your death. This life insurance policy provides income protection to help your family cover your lost future wages, a lump-sum payment made to your beneficiaries, and the option to spend the benefit however your loved ones see fit. Depending on the type and amount of coverage you select, you may need to provide evidence of insurability.

Pet Insurance

Pet Insurance Humans love our pets like children, so it’s important to be able to keep them healthy and happy! Our pet insurance through Nationwide helps you give your pets quality health care, no matter the cost, by providing access to any licensed veterinarian in the world, depending on the chosen vendor, and group rates and discounts for pet medical expenses like surgeries, lab fees, routine care, and treatments.

Like your medical, dental, and vision benefits, you have 14 days from the actual start date of your contract to make voluntary benefits elections. If you elect one of these benefits, coverage begins retroactively on the actual start date of your assignment.

In that spirit, please save the date for Medical Solutions open enrollment, which will run October 27-November 9, 2019.

During this open enrollment, you can make any changes you’d like to your elections for the 2020 plan year.

You do not need to take any action right now — this is just a heads up that open enrollment is coming soon. Current Medical Travelers will receive email communications with more information about next steps closer to the beginning of open enrollment.

It’s Open Enrollment time for Medical Solutions employees and we have several exciting new additions and updates to share regarding this process. But just because we’re talking boring benefits doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun … Are you ready for some fun facts about Open Enrollment? You thought I’d never ask, right?!

Fun Fact: Medical Solutions Open Enrollment runs Monday, October 30, 2017- Friday, November 10, 2017.

Open Enrollment is the period of time during which you can make changes to your medical, dental, vision, and voluntary benefits elections. Medical Solutions offers passive enrollment — meaning that if you are enrolled with us already and you like your current benefits choices as-is, you do not need to take any action.

For those who do want to make changes or add voluntary benefits, you will make your new elections via your My Pay & Benefits tab at between Monday, October 30, 2017- Friday, November 10, 2017.

Fun Fact: Starting in 2018, Medical Solutions will offer you FIVE voluntary benefits!

In addition to the existing voluntary benefits we offer our Travelers — short-term disability and critical illness insurance — Medical Solutions will begin to offer pet, accident, and hospital indemnity insurance in 2018.

All five voluntary benefits will be available to employees and their dependents. When you go to make your elections this year, please consider whether to take advantage of any or all of these voluntary benefits! See page four of our Traveler Benefits Summary for more information about each of these voluntary benefits.

For critical illness, accident, and hospital indemnity insurance, you will be able to elect via your My Pay & Benefits tab at For pet insurance, follow the link provided and for short-term disability, call the phone number provided.

Fun Fact: This is the second Medical Solutions Open Enrollment period in 2017.

Why? Because beginning in 2018, Medical Solutions’ benefits plan years will run in agreement with the calendar year, as opposed to the April-March plan years we’ve had in the past. This is increasingly the standard and will also help our team members better align benefits choices with their spouse’s or parents’ plan, when applicable.

Fun Fact: It’s super easy to make your changes to your elections during Open Enrollment!

If you want to make changes to your elections for the upcoming plan year, you can first review your options in this Traveler Benefits Summary, and then follow these instructions to make your updated elections:

  • Log in at
  • Click on “My Pay & Benefits” then click the “Elect” icon.
  • Click on “Menu” and select “Open Enrollment.”
  • Follow the steps to verify beneficiary & dependent information and make your new medical, dental, and vision benefits elections.
  • At this time, you should also consider if you’d like to enroll in any voluntary benefits, including: Short-term disability, critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity, or pet insurance.
  • Next, you’ll be able to see a side-by-side view of your current and new benefits elections. Once satisfied with your new elections, click “Submit.”
  • You must complete any changes by Friday, November 10, 2017.

United Healthcare’s Health4Me App

Managing your healthcare concerns … there’s an app for that!

Steady, affordable healthcare is a more important concern than ever before these days. That’s why Medical Solutions offers Travelers medical insurance starting at just $15 per week for a single, basic policy through United Healthcare — as well as the option to maintain benefits for up to 21 days (recently increased from 14 days!) in between assignments as long as you’ve already signed your next contract with us.

So, having great, affordable healthcare benefits is one part of the battle — but what about being able to easily access your benefits once you’re signed up?

Thankfully, there’s an app for that! United Healthcare’s got you covered with their awesome Health4Me app, which lets you access all your healthcare info, even when you’re on the go.

The Health4Me app is available for free to both Apple and Android customers. You simply need to register at to enable both mobile and online services.

According to UHC, here’s some of the helpful stuff the app allows you to do:

  • Search for physicians or facilities by location or specialty
  • Locate urgent care clinics and ERs
  • Estimate medication costs, manage prescription claims and find pharmacies
  • Skip the phone prompts and have a service representative contact you to answer questions about claims and benefits
  • View and share member health plan ID card information
  • Find hospital quality information to help make an informed decision about the best place to get care

Medical Solutions Benefits Open Enrollment Has Started!

Spring is almost here, and with it: Medical Solutions’ Benefits Open Enrollment period, February 20-March 3, 2017!

It’s the perfect time of year to “spring clean” your benefits elections! Medical Solutions’ benefits Open Enrollment period for medical, dental, and vision will run February 20-March 3, with an effective date of April 1, 2017.

Once again this year we will offer passive enrollment — meaning that if you do not wish to make any changes to your current benefits elections, you will not need to take any action during open enrollment. But, for those who do wish to update their elections, they will be able to do so during Open Enrollment. Medical Solutions will also continue to offer basic, single medical insurance coverage starting at just $15 per week!

New enhancements for 2017 include:

  • Lower deductibles on our silver and bronze categories of medical insurance
  • Lower copays on specialty visits
  • Plan rates staying the same or slightly lower in cost — depending upon the tier of coverage chosen
  • Enhanced dental coverage with a raise in maximum coverage from $1,000 to $1,500 for in and out of network services, orthodontia, and the allowable rollover amount
