Congrats to June 2016’s Traveler of the Month and Rising Star!

Patricia Travel Nurse

Congrats to our June Traveler of the Month, Patricia O., pictured her with her dog, Chinook, and her youngest son, Eric.

Many thanks and congrats to the June 2016 Traveler of the Month, Patricia “Trish” O., and also our Rising Star winner, Kelly T.!

Traveler of the Month Trish is an RN specializing in Geriatrics, who also has experience in Rehab and Med Surg. She works with Career Consultant Aaron B. and is currently on assignment in central Nebraska — her favorite location so far in her career.

“I like the town; it’s not too big or too small and has a lot to offer,” says Trish, who’s been in nursing since age 16, an RN since her late 30s, and traveling for three and a half years.

“I really enjoy seeing different states and meeting new people,” she says. “I also like learning new things in the nursing field as they come along.”

Trish traveled with her significant other, Larry, until he sadly passed away in June 2016.

“I have since gotten a dog, an Alaskan Husky, and we travel together now. She is great company,” says the uber-strong Trish of her pretty pup, Chinook.

She says her focus in nursing is “just to take care of people and hope I make a difference.” In her free time, Trish likes to crochet and write stories — she hopes to get a story published one day!

She advises new Travelers to soak up as much info as they can in their assignments.

“One thing that I’ve found works for me in my travels, is to make the unit I am on mine,” she says. “I learn everything I can about the unit, the workings, policies, everything, so when a patient asks a question I can answer them thoughtfully instead of just saying ‘I’m only a Traveler and I don’t know.’ I’m willing to learn anything they’re willing to teach me — instead of saying, ‘I’m just a Traveler and I don’t need to know that.’ I just like to learn and no one is too old to learn anything. I feel I learn something new every day and it’s great!”

Thank you so much for your insight and wonderful service, Trish!

Travel Nurse Kelly T

Congrats to Rising Star, Kelly T., pictured here with cutie-pie pup, Cocoa.

Rising Star Kelly is an RN/CEN specializing in ER who’s been in nursing for 31 years and traveling since 2002. Her recruiter at Medical Solutions is Career Consultant Julie F. and she’s currently on assignment in South Dakota.

“I travel with my husband Ray, who is retired from the state of Texas, and my seven-month-old Chihuahua, Cocoa,” says Kelly.

Her favorite location so far in her travel career has been central California, because she had the benefit of working in a great facility and was close to Yosemite National Park and the Sierras.

Travel Nurse Kelly T

Kelly, Ray, and Cocoa rule the road in this awesome fifth wheel!

“Travel Nursing is like a working vacation,” says Kelly. “You have time to explore everything in the area you work.”

That’s an extra special bonus for Kelly, whose hobby is genealogy.

“I love photographing old tombstones and I’ve photographed over 65,000 tombstones across the U.S.,” she says. “I post them online to free sites so others can find their ancestors and it helps to preserve history.”

Kelly offers solid advice for new and aspiring Travel Nurses.

“When in Rome, do as the Romans do — follow their policies and procedures and do things how they do it,” she says. “Be flexible.”

Great advice, Kelly!

Congratulations again to the Medical Solutions June 2016 Traveler of the Month and Rising Star! Trish and Kelly, we are so grateful for your hard work, rock star skills, and commitment to providing excellent patient care!
